Court Reinstate Sacked 22 local Government Chairmen In Rivers

Sacked 22 local government chairmen in Rivers state have been reinstated by the national industrial court sitting in Bayelsa state, The Cable has reported.

A federal high court in Port Harcourt had sacked the chairmen last Thursday as it accused the past administration of Rotimi amaech for flouting a court order which had stopped the conduct of the election.

But ruling today, the national industrial court directed the inspector-general of police to provide security for the chairmen.


The reinstated chairmen will take over from the caretaker chairmen  appointed by the state governor, Nyesom Wike, following their sack.


The report however added that the caretaker chairmen could not assume office as  policemen lay siege by all the local government secretariats in the state.

The earlier local government election was won by members of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
