Shooting Stars FC of Ibadan showed sheer class in their week 17 encounter of the Nigeria Premier Football League against Giwa FC from Jos, defeating their guests 3-0 at the Adamasingba stadium in Ibadan on Sunday.

Ibrahim Ajani, who was arguably the stand out performer of the game, scored a brace before providing the assist for Najim Olukokun to score the third in a rampant first half for the Oluyole Warriors.

The match which was played at a very high tempo on Sunday evening, was almost one-sided, as the Oluyole Warriors left nothing to chance with three first half strikes to seal the encounter before the break.

Although the Jos landlords tried to play their game in the second half, the damage had been done in the first half as Shooting Stars showed more composure to keep their guests at bay.

There was however, a mild drama towards the end of the second half as 3SC skipper Izu Joseph, got a straight red card for slapping a Giwa fc player.

What would have resulted in crowd violence was averted by the referee and the security officers on ground as the 3SC captain and Ambrose Jimmy for Giwa fc were sent to the stands to the applause of the teeming supporters.

3SC goalkeeper, Adamu Abubakar, made a point blank save to deny the visitors towards the end of the second half to preserve their clean sheet, which will be a delight to their new coach, Gbenga Ogunbote.

Respected sports journalist and media consultant, Colin Udoh, who was at the Adamasingba stadium, told Naij.com that the contest was one of the better games he has watched in recent times especially as the visitors were placed above the Oluyole Warriors.

Udoh believes that the NPFL will come back to its glory days, especially with the crowd turning out en masse to watch the game.“There was barely standing space in the stadium today because the people were massive in their support.

“I even learnt that many people were locked outside because the stadium was already filled up. This is a great improvement for our league and the way 3SC defeated Giwa, it is obvious that your placing on the log does not determine your performance.

“Giwa did not probably expect what they saw and I hope they have learnt from this. The officiating was also on point as we all saw. It was a really good game under a really fantastic atmosphere,” he said.

Meanwhile, SammyAdesoji, media officer of the visiting team, believes that his team was robbed by the referee, whose officiating was very poor.

In a brief chat with Naij.com, he said: “We played to the referee’s pattern of officiating and the result was what we all saw today (Sunday).

“In the second half, we were really up to the task but, the damage had been done in the first half already. I believe that we have the capability to bounce back and we shall surely do that in our next game.”
