No To Fuel Subsidy Removal – Sani

Senator Shehu Sani representing Kaduna Central Senatorial zone on Sunday rejected calls for the removal of fuel subsidy. Senator Sani said fuel subsidy removal will lead to untold hardship to the common man.

Sani said this in Kaduna while paying a courtesy visit to former Governor of defunct Kaduna State, Alhaji Balarabe Musa, at his residence.

‘I am from a civil rights movement, we struggle against the removal of oil subsidy.

‘I remain so, I believe that fuel needs to be subsidized from the very fact that if it is removed, it will lead to untold hardship for the common man.

‘Most importantly, we need to get our refineries back on track, we also need to ensure that fraudulent companies and personalities do not exploit our position on subsidy to defraud the nation,’ Sani a civil rights activist turned senator said.

The senator reiterated the need for fuel subsidy to be sustained as citizens of most nations also enjoy subsidy from their government.

‘Subsidy is very necessary to Nigeria because most nations are giving subsidy to their citizens which is very necessary.’

In recent times, the call for the removal of fuel subsidy has risen. Some Nigerians believe that stopping fuel subsidy will save the country some funds which can be used to provide infrastructural amenities, others are against the removal of subsidy because it is about the only thing the masses enjoy from the government.
