Senate Forgery Should Not Have Gotten To The Police -Sen. Sani

The Senator representing Kaduna Central Senatorial District, Shehu Sani, on Sunday lamented over the crisis currently rocking the National Assembly on the issue of alleged forgery in the Senate rules.

Mr Sani who was paying a courtesy call on former Kaduna State Governor, Balarabe Musa said that the case of alleged forgery of Senate rules by some senators should not have been allowed to degenerate to a level where the Nigerian Police would be involved.

“I got elected to the 8th Senate, I was provided with a document that I use, whether that document was forged, I cannot affirm it if it is forged,” Mr Sani said.

As far as I am concerned, the issue should not have gone to the police, because the police have no role to play in addressing the problem of the National Assembly.

“I believe the crisis rocking the National Assembly will be resolved, there are people who are committed to seeing that the problem is addressed.”

Mr Sani, who was worried said that “It is very painful that after winning the election APC senators are still divided among themselves.”

While expressing his willingness to work with anyone for the benefit of the parliament, government and the whole country, Mr Sani admonished his colleagues to bury their differences and agree to work together.

“We should bury our differences to work together, though some senators still have those differences, but I am not one of them, and not one of those who went and elected the new leadership of the senate.

“So much have been said on the crisis rocking the national assembly which is not in the best interest of the parliament, government and the whole country.

“I belong to those who believe to bury our differences so that the country can move forward and continue with our legislative duties, I have a commitment to those who elected me as a senator,” Sani added.

Mr. Sani also described Balarabe Musa as a man who led an exemplary life with the meagre resource under his watch when he was a governor.

Responding, Mr. Musa went down memory lane saying he and Mr Sani have been involved in different struggles for the reconstruction of Nigeria to justice, equality, peace and dignity of the human person in the country.

Mr. Musa also kicked against the removal of fuel subsidy, saying it would be anti-people and also supported party supremacy, saying ‘it was meant to build enduring democracy.’

The 8th National Assembly have been involved in one crisis or the other since its inauguration. Since its inception, the 8th Assembly have not had time to deal with issues affecting Nigerians. Many are beginning to believe that the change clamoured for in the affairs of the National Assembly might not see the light of the day as many Senators are not ready to compromise, and bury their differences for the good of the country.
