Suleiman Abdulrahman Kawu Sumaila was appointed today a new SSA to the President on National Assembly Matters.



1. Suleiman AbdulRahaman Kawu Sumaila was born on 3 March 1968 in Kano state. He attended several Islamic schools at his early age. Later he joined Bayero University Kano, and studied for a bachelor degree of arts in Islamic studies at National Open University of Nigeria. Besides that he attended several courses at Harvard in the US and Oxford and Cambridge in the UK.

2. Suleiman Kawu started his politic career in 1991. He was a member of Peoples Democratic Movement which later in the process of merging with some other political groups has transformed into what is now known as the People’s Democratic Party. During Sani Abacha’s regime Kawu was the member of United Nigeria Congress Party. He also served as the Kano state house of assembly aspirant of the PDP in 1999.


3. In 2003 he defected to All Nigeria Peoples Party and successfully contested as member of House of Representatives. After his re-election for the second term into the Lower Chamber he became the Deputy Minority Leader in 2007, and was later retained this position after he was re-elected into the House in 2011.

4. In 2012 he was conferred of the prestigious national honour of the Order of the Federal Republic of Nigeria by then-president Goodluck Jonathan. Nevertheless, he contested for position of the Executive Governor of Kano state under the platform of the APC.

5. He has got three wives – Baraka, Binta and Samira and nine children – Khadijah, Aminu, Hafsat, A’isha, Amina, Ibrahim, Isma’il, Hajara, Usman.



According to a press statement made available today, Wednesday, August 27, by Femi Adesina, the special adviser to the president on media and publicity, the president has made six important appointments today.
