Appeal Court Gives Verdict On Ambode’s Victory Over Agbaje

Court of Appeal sitting in Lagos has today, August 26, given a verdict on the declaration of Akinwunmi Ambode as the winner of the April governorship election in the state.

The court held that Ambode was validly elected as the governor on April 11.

The three-man tribunal, ruled by Justice Muhammad Sirajo, dismissed Agbaje’s request seeking to annul Ambode’s announcement as winner.

Ambode, of the All Progressives Congress scored 811,994 votes against Agbaje’s 659,788.

Justice Sirajo said the petition by Agbaje and the PDP were faulty because they failed to pray for the conduct of a fresh election.

While reacting to Ambode’s victory, the Lagos chapter of the opposition party has defined the decision of the appellant court as a controversial legal victory and not a moral victory for the APC and governor Ambode.

”An appeal to the Supreme Court is not ruled out. But in the meantime, we appreciate the people’s support in the period of this hearings. We shall return to our planning room and hopefully consolidate our established electoral victory in ‎subsequent elections. We now know the strength and weakness‎ of the APC in Lagos state,” it said.
