Alison Parker, 24, and Adam Ward, 27, both of the WDBJ7, were killed at the Bridgewater Plaza near Smith Mountain Lake in Virginia, the USA, in the morning of Wednesday, August 26.

The murder happened during a live broadcast
The tragic event took place while they were shooting a live segment at around 6.45am.
A video footage shows the moment a gunman opened fire – which sent the crew screaming and ducking for cover.

First shots have been fired

Reporter Alison Parker and cameraman Adam Ward died in the shooting. Ms. Parker’s mother confirmed it to CBS news. They were reporting for CBS Roanoke affiliate WDBJ-TV.

The camera was dropped and the broadcast was taken back to the studio, where the presenter looked stunned.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives participated in the manhunt, while the ATF and FBI participated in the investigation.
Ryan Edwards, a spokesman for the Bedford County Public Schools said the schools have been put on lock-down until further notice.
The shooter was reported to be at large, and a manhunt was underway, pictures of the gunman was caught on camera. WDBJ General Manager Jeff Marks said the shooter is believed to have fired six or seven times.

However, latest reports confirm that Flanagan shot himself while the authorities confronted him. There was a brief confusion regarding his state of being. It was first reported that he died from his gun wounds, but counter claims said a pulse was felt, insinuating that he is still alive, though in really critical condition.
The shooter was a former employee of the TV station. He was identified as Vester L. Flanagan.
According to a former WDBJ employee, Flanagan was a reporter for about a year using the on-air name Bryce Williams. He was fired from the station, though the reason was not made public.
A guest who was being interviewed was shot in the back and she is reported to be receiving treatment in the hospital.
Barb Nocera, the chamber’s special projects manager, said: “The woman being interviewed, Vicki Gardner, executive director of the Smith Mountain Lake Regional Chamber of Commerce, was shot in the back and is in surgery.”
