Over 1000 SDP Members Swept By Broom Of Change

Over one thousand members of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), in Ijebu East local government area of Ogun state have returned to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).



Receiving the members today, September 3, at the party secretariat in Ogbere, the APC chairman in the area, Otunba Adedayo Ademosu disclosed that the returnees have finally come back home.


He added that they are welcome home.


Ademosu said: “You are all welcome back home, you have just returned to your home. This is your party, you are not a stranger. I’m highly happy to welcome and receive you back home,” Ademosu said.


It was gathered that each ward in the local government were asked to bring some members to the secretariat for recognition while other returning members would be doing theirs at their various wards across the 11 wards in the local government area.


Leaders of the new returnee, Mr Okeowo, a former chairman of the SDP in the local government area and Hon. Salabiyu, an ex-councillor and chairman of Osunmayegun forum expressed happiness for rejoining with their ‘people’.

Speaking with our correspondent, a one-time local government chairman in the area and a chieftain of the APC, Comrade Tunde Oladunjoye said he is more than happy to see the returnees, urging them to join hands to move the local government forward.


I am more than happy to see our people coming back to us. I have been persuading them before the election but they said they are having some issues then. God time is the best, I’m happy that they are back with us.


“My advice to them now is to join hands with the party to move the local government forward. There are no more person in the opposition parties in the local government,so they should join hands to make Ijebu East an APC alone party in the local government“, the former Ijebu East local government chairman advised.



About two weeks ago, about 6,000 members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) defected to the APC in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). They were led by a PDP chieftain in the FCT, Yahaya Alhassan Gwagwa.


Before that, a former chairman of the PDP in Borno state, Hon. Kolo Bukar and a former minority leader of the House of Representatives (1999-2003), Hon. Mohammed Kumaila defected to the APC, alongside scores of their supporters.
