The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has been warned by the Ndigbo Youths Organization (NYO) to stop harassing the deputy president of the Senate, Ike Ekweremadu.
The NYO, which claimed it had the responsibility of fighting for the interest and welfare of the Igbo race, cautioned the APC to stop plotting to kick Ekweremadu out of office, Vanguard reports.
This was contained in a statement by its secretary general, Comrade Patrick Afuberah.
According to Afuberah, there was nothing unusual about Ekweremadu’s emergence as deputy president of the Senate as he was duly elected as other key officers of the National Assembly.
“The calls from some APC senators and leaders for the resignation of Ekweremadu as Deputy Senate President is unacceptable to us and in fact an insult to the Igbo race.

“The fact that Senator Ike Ekweremadu was elected deputy senate president in a Senate that has majority of APC senators, speaks volumes of his leadership qualities and impeccable strength of character as a person,” the statement read.
The group wondered why the leadership of the APC was bent on kicking him out of office.
The NYO said they would resist any attempt to ridicule Ekweremadu, urging the inspector-general of police, Solomon Arase not to allow himself be drawn into the politics of the national assembly leadership.
Ekweremadu has been under attack over allegations of altering the Senate rules on processes of election of presiding officers of the upper legislative chamber.
Last week, the apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, had warned those threatening to harm the deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, to desist from doing so or face the consequences.
