In a move geared at checking the spread of HIV, the Ondo state government has signed a law stipulating a 10-year jail term, fine of N500,000 or both for anyone, who transmits the virus to another person.

The law also stipulate a fine of N100, 000.00 or imprisonment of six months or both for anyone who discriminates against people living with disease.
Explaining the rationale behind the lae, the Secretary to the State Government, Aderotimi Adelola, at a sensitisation program yesterday, June 29, said the laws were passed to protect the rights of people living with HIV who are often faced with the burden of dealing with the disease and discrimination.
