The newly-elected APC flag-bearer reprimanded Oshiomhole for failing to conduct a peaceful and credible primary election of the party, Daily Post reports.

Sylva said: “It’s been a long walk and I am very happy today to accept the victory that you have given to me for the second time. This is only the beginning of the journey. Today I have seen that we politicians have a lot to learn from the military, what a serving governor of Edo state of this country was incapable of doing just a few days ago has been achieved by a retired general and his team.

“This tells you that we have a lot to learn about the military. I want to thank the security agencies that have been present since yesterday night until now and have kept the peace and make sure that this primary is rancour free.”

The initial primary election held in Yenagoa of which Sylva was declared winner was said to have been a botched one and  reportedly marred by violence when thugs disrupted the electoral process by throwing stones at delegates of the party who were already lined up for screening, creating chaos and panic at the venue.

The Edo state governor who heads the electoral committee set up by the national leadership of the party to conduct the governorship primaries in Bayelsa state had also said that Sylva was not declared winner of the primaries.

Oshiomhole however described the reported emergence of Sylva as a “huge joke”.

Subsequently, the leadership of the APC cancelled the Bayelsa governorship primary election and asked Sylva to go to court if he still insisted that he had won the primary poll.

Sylva fired back at the Edo state governor describing his words as a deliberate “act of mischief” and “lies”.

Shortly after that disputed election, the National Working Committee (NWC) of the APC replaced Oshiomhole with Brig-Gen Mansur Dan Ali as chairman of the Bayelsa gubernatorial primary election committee for the rescheduled election.

Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party has commented on its chances of grabbing a second term in office in Kogi and Bayelsa states as the governorship elections draw close.
