Boko Haram Attacks 3 Villages, Kills 11

Adamu Kamale a lawmaker representing Madagali and Michika areas in the House of Representatives has said a Boko Haram attack in three villages in Adamawa has left 11 people dead.

The Guardian reports that an attack on Wednesday, September 30 in Bitiku and Kubu resulted in the death of four people while seven people were killed on Thursday, October 1 in Kirchinga.

The attack in Kirchinga was considered very significant as it happened on Independence Day.

Kirchinga is a border village that shares border with Sambisa forest. The forest is a strong hold of Boko Haram and is believed to be the location of the abducted Chibok girls.

Kamale lamented that the proximity of the village to Sambisa forest makes it a very dangerous place to inhabit. He said the village needed more security personnel.

He said the insurgents attacked traders returning from the market and killed four of them.

“The insurgents attacked a group of traders returning from Gulak market and killed four of them before proceeding to Kirchinga where they slaughtered seven persons, including three women.”

The Guardian reports that the military said it had cleared Adamawa of any Boko Haram insurgency and urged people who fled to return to their homes. Maina Ularamu, a former local government administrator in Madagali said since the people returned, life had been miserable for them. He said the region was suffering from basic needs.

He added that the presence of government was not felt in the region and it seemed they had been abandoned.

“There is no existence of government, no health care services, no schools. Our bridges have not been fixed ‎so movement of people and goods is difficult in this rainy season.”

President Muhammadu Buhari promised Nigerians that he would do his best to put an end to Boko Haram attacks and ordered the military to wipe out the group in three months. The attacks seemed not to have slowed down as a similar attack in Maiduguri left a lot of people dead. The attack was reportedly carried out by insurgents who disguised as women.
