The Benue state governor, Samuel Ortom, has in a statement on Thursday, October 1, dispelled the supposition that his administration had inflated the bailout fund meant for the state.

The insinuation had been on the basis that there were indications that the governor made the inflation with the ulterior motive of siphoning money for selfish purposes, Daily Trust reports.

However, the senior special assistant on media and ICT, Terver Akase, reacted to the allegations making rounds saying that they were baseless, mischievous and unfounded.

He said: “The financial institutions already have the figures computed for the bailout fund and they are not contradictory. So, any insinuation that the amount was inflated is fake. Though all necessary paper work to access the money has been completed. The bailout fund has not yet been released to Benue. The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) is yet to credit the state’s account.”

The state governorship election petition tribunal sitting in Makurdi, the state capital, had upheld the election of Ortom recently as governor of state. This was in line with the petition filed by Terhemen Tarzor of the Peoples Democratic Party.

According to The Guardian, there had also been series of criticisms by the retired commissioner of police and elder statesman of the state, Alhaji Abubakar Tsav, against Ortom’s administration

The-then adviser on media and ICT, Tahav Agerzua, alleged that the erstwhile police boss was hired by a group of some failed politicians to cause a rift between his boss (Ortom) and President Muhammadu Buhari.

However, in a swift reaction, Tsav denied being hired by any person or group of politicians, stressing that he is neither into politics nor does he belong to any political party.

On another hand, Abba Moro, the immediate past minister of Interior, has been under heavy attack following his inciting statement against Ortom.

Moro had said that Benue state was still waiting for the much-publicized change, adding that Ortom did not have what it takes to rule the state.
